Corporate Social Responsibility
As a trusted supplier in land surveying, excavating, municipal, and utility locating industries, MMD takes corporate social responsibility seriously. We’re a culture-focused company driven by the belief that business should be a force for good, delivering quality while making a positive impact on our communities and the environment.
With nationwide shipping and local pickup available at our Elburn, IL warehouse, we’re mindful of our footprint. That’s why we prioritize eco-conscious practices at every step, from responsible sourcing to minimizing waste and emissions.
We’re also committed to social responsibility. Whether it’s supporting local nonprofits, mentoring future industry leaders, or championing fair and ethical business practices, we know that how we operate today shapes tomorrow.
Our eco-friendly practices:
We’re doing our part to reduce environmental stress, and we’re proud to share a few of the steps we’ve taken:
- Product recycling – We offer recycling for many of the products we sell, including marking paint cans, hard hats, and safety vests. We also serve as a drop-off location for our sister company, Flat Can Recycling, which handles aerosol cans, propane/isobutane tanks, latex paint, batteries, and much more.
- Office waste management – TerraCycle stations throughout our office collect glass, plastic, metal, paper, and snack wrappers, helping keep everyday waste out of landfills.
- No plastic bottles – Our team skips single-use plastic in favor of canned beverages and fresh spring water from our Hinckley Springs water cooler.
- Compostable materials – We use AnEco trash bags, made from 100% compostable materials that break down into humus, water, and CO₂ within 6 to 12 months.
- Sustainable packaging – Orders are packed in cardboard and sealed with water-activated kraft paper tape. We reuse or recycle every box we receive.
- Digital operations – Our software suite—including QuickBooks Online, Fishbowl Inventory, and Zippy Kind—minimizes paper waste by digitizing key workflows.
- Reusable breakroom supplies – Real dishes and utensils replace single-use plastics in our break area.
- Energy-efficient lighting – All interior and exterior lighting has been upgraded to LED, reducing our energy consumption.
- Local sourcing – Ninety percent of our products are manufactured in the USA, which reduces shipping-related emissions and supports domestic industry.
We hope this inspires you to try a few of these practices in your own organization. Small shifts can lead to meaningful impact.
